FEES & INSURANCE

Do you accept insurance?

Starr Therapy is an out-of-network provider, which means we are not contracted with any health insurance companies. There are several reasons for this. First, insurance companies not only require justification for treatment, they will dictate the type and length of treatment. At Starr Therapy, we put you in the driver’s seat for your own mental healthcare. We empower you to choose which one of our clinicians you want to work with, what you are treated for, what your treatment goals are, and how long you receive treatment.

Second, therapists who take insurance see a lot of clients, sometimes 40 per week. For this reason, people seeking therapists within their insurance often find it difficult to get in touch with them and when they do, the waiting lists are long. Starr Therapy clinicians see approximately 20 clients (or less) per week so we can typically schedule new clients for their first appointment within 1 week of contacting us. This also allows us more flexibility with session scheduling.

Finally our focus is quality over quantity. Because we’re not burdened with an excessive amount of clients and paperwork for insurance companies, our therapists are able to invest their time becoming better and better clinicians on a regular basis. We are constantly building our skills through professional training, receiving extra education in specialty areas, and reading the latest published research in the mental health field. As the client, you benefit directly by receiving treatment from highly trained and specialized professionals, rather than basic treatment from a generalist.

What do sessions cost?

Session fees vary based on the type of session and length. Fees range anywhere from $145.00 – $415.00.

What about Out-of-Network benefits?

The great news is our fees are reimbursable if you have out of network benefits – and most people do! Out of network benefits mean the insurance company will pay for you to see a therapist who is not contracted with your insurance company. To find out if you have out of network benefits, call the customer service number on your insurance card and ask for the coverage or benefits department. Ask the representative if you have out of network benefits for mental health services. If you do have out of network benefits, ask what the deductible is and what the reimbursement rates are. This information will allow you to calculate how much treatment will cost.

If you have out of network benefits, we will do all the paperwork for you. We will submit the necessary information to your insurance company weekly and you will receive a check for your contracted reimbursable amount in the mail.

What are the benefits of seeing someone out-of-network?

Start therapy quickly. Therapists who take insurance see a lot of clients, sometimes 40 per week. For this reason, people seeking therapists within their insurance often find it difficult to get in touch with them and when they do, the waiting lists are long. Starr Therapy clinicians see approximately 20 clients (or less) per week and we can typically schedule new clients for their first appointment within 1 week of contacting us.

Get treatment from highly trained and specialized clinicians. At Starr Therapy, our focus is quality over quantity. Because we’re not burdened with an excessive amount of clients per week, our therapists are able to invest their time becoming better and better clinicians on a regular basis. We are constantly building our skills through professional trainings, receiving extra education in specialty areas, and reading the latest published research in the mental health field. You pick your therapist, not your insurance company. Finding the right therapist and right treatment can be a challenge when you have limited choices. Research has shown you make a lot more progress in therapy when you have a good therapeutic relationship with your therapist. Going out-of-network allows you to have more options to find the right fitting therapist, instead of settling for someone who accepts your insurance but you don’t feel comfortable with.

Length of treatment is up to you. Insurance companies seek to pay the least they have to in order to be a functioning business model. Therefore, they often insist clients go through manualized or short-term treatment programs that have a specific cut-off, rather than allowing the client to choose the best fitting therapist or treatment method. At Starr Therapy, we offer short-term or open-ended treatment options that put you in the driver’s seat for your own mental healthcare. We typically have long-term relationships with clients but that doesn’t necessarily mean everyone who starts therapy stays in therapy forever. Starr Therapy clients come in for support, get what they need, and terminate when they feel ready. When life changes again (as it usually does), you can always come back in.

Session fees are reimbursable. Most insurance plans include out-of-network benefits which can cover up to 100% of the cost of treatment after your deductible is met. Call your insurance company to find out what your out-of-network coverage is before assuming you have to limit yourself with in-network therapists.
